Looking for Another Me....

"But you know me, I'm in too deep
And I'm waiting for another me

One that can change the pain of yesterday

Carry me through another day

And I'm waiting for another me

One in between the burn

And the lessons learned

'Cause being me ain't no way to be"
Chorus of "Another Me" by Sister Hazel

I don't know about you, but there are certain songs that speak to me, the above song from Sister Hazel, is one. Now, I don't know what the songwriter was going through at the time, but for me it's about seeing yourself and recognizing your flaws - and trying to figure out how to be the person you want to be.

"I'm waiting for another me..." How often have I looked at what I'm doing (or thinking) and wondered why the cycle has not been broken. Have you said something (or done something), that you wish you could take back. Maybe it's a pattern of thinking or behavior (once again a cycle) that you just want to stop -- but it's very hard. You get going down a path, gain momentum, and BOOM, you crash at the bottom. Now looking up, it's such a huge climb to get back to where you were to begin with.

Here's the good news -- each of us has the capacity to change. Bad news -- it can be hard work. If you're in debt, you have to change your spending pattern and maybe do without some things. If you're in bad health, figuring out a way to get in better health (exercise, eat better, stop "bad" habits, etc.). If you've hurt those you love, or ruined valuable relationships with other people in your life and you want to repair them, you've got to do what it takes (ask for forgiveness, forgive them, decide you'd rather be happy than right, whatever). And possibly, it means just walking away from something or someone - because you know that's the only way real change will happen.

The chorus ends with "Cause being me ain't no way to be" -- the other you (and me) is inside. Our job is figuring out what's not working and fix it. Happiness is never about "what's going on outside" -- it's always about "what's going on inside". The other you is there, find that person, talk to them, get to know them and changing into that person will become much easier. Everyone around you (including you) will thank you for it.

In case you want to purchase the song on iTunes, it will cost you $0.99.
